We Love New York

LITTLE ROCK Monday, something happened in the Big Apple that was enough to make any American proud.
The USS New York, which was built in Louisiana, completed its maiden voyage and finally reached the state for which it is named.
The USS New York is unique: Its bow stem was made with 7.5 tons of steel from the World Trade Center. Former New York Gov. George Pataki acquired the steel and donated it to the Navy.
On Monday morning, the USS New York paused adjacent to Ground Zero, where there was an honorary firing of guns. A part of the World Trade Center had come home, albeit in a different form.
We’ll never forget what happened on that gruesome day in September 2001. Pictures of the carnage will forever linger in our minds.
Knowing that some of that debris has been transformed to make a beautiful ship reminds us of the innovation and perseverance that has made this nation great.
As Pataki put it, “On September 2001, our nation’s enemies brought their fight to New York. The USS New York will now bring the fight to our nation’s enemies well into the future.”
