Why America is troubled The price of oil has risen over the past month. When gasoline was $1.35 a gallon, people were paying $100 per month for fuel. When the price hit $4 per gallon, people were paying $400 per month. That’s $300 per month that didn’t go for mortgages, food, clothing and other items.
