Teacher Finalist For State Award

SPRINGDALE Springdale teacher Kathy Prophet, one of 15 finalists for the Arkansas Teacher of the Year Award, was named third runner-up during a ceremony Friday evening at the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock.
Vandy Nash of North Little Rock was named the 2010 Teacher of the Year, according to a news release from the Arkansas Department of Education. The department names three runner-ups in addition to the winner.
Prophet teaches science at Hellstern Middle School, and is in her 20th year at the school district. She taught at Southwest Junior High School and Tyson Middle School prior to teaching at Hellstern.
All finalists received $1,000, and the winner received an additional $14,000.
The award was presented by Gov. Mike Beebe and Education Commissioner Tom Kimbrell.
