— Public meetings to promote the city's sales tax vote will be held at four locations in the coming weeks.

The schedule is:

• Nov. 11: 3 p.m. at the Metfield Clubhouse;

• Nov. 18: 3:30 p.m. at Shrimpman's Yacht Club;

• Dec. 1: 6:30 p.m. at the Highlands Crossing Community Center;

• Dec. 2: 6:30 p.m. at Riordan Hall.

The purpose of the meetings is to inform residents about the proposed 1-cent sales tax -- why it is needed and how the city made that determination.

Registered votes will decide the issue at the polls on Dec. 8.

Alderman Doug Farner is heading the sales-tax steering committee, which also consists of four residents and Alderwoman Arline Hutchinson.

Farner and his group will give a brief history of the Operational Planning Committee that determined the Bella Vista Police and Fire departments' needs and how to fund them. One of the few funding options is a city sales tax.

Mayor Frank Anderson, Police Chief Ken Farmer and Fire Chief Steve Sims will also attend the meetings to answer questions.

Farner said the meetings are being funded through donations only. City money are not being used.

Additional meetings have been scheduled with local churches, clubs and organizations. Fliers with frequently asked questions are available at City Hall in Bella Vista's Town Center and The Weekly Vista newspaper office in Town Center West.
