Run Planned To Raise Money For Cemetery

ROGERS A nonprofit group that supports the operation of Fayetteville National Cemetery will hold a 5K run Saturday to raise money to expand the cemetery’s borders.
The Veterans Memorial 5K race, organized by the Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corp., will start at 8 a.m. at the cemetery on Government Street in south Fayetteville, just south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Registration begins at 6 a.m. and continues until 7:45 a.m. The entry fee is $25.
The course will run from the national cemetery north to Wilson Park then back tothe cemetery.

“This is first real fundraising event we have ever done,” said Wesley Stites, the organizer for the group. “We have been very pleased with the response of businesses and runners. Tyson Foods stepped up as our major sponsor of the race. HogeyeInc., a small local business that makes lapel pins, has also been incredibly generous in their support. Runners from all over the state and region have signed up for the race.”
The group intends to use money raised to purchase property along Hill Street to be added to the existing cemetery.
