Leaf Drop-Off Hours Extended
YARD WASTE TO BE USED FOR COMPOST

BENTONVILLE The Bentonville Compost Facility is expanding its hours to make it easier for residents to dispose of their many bags of autumn leaves.
The facility, at 2000 N.W. “A” St., is accepting leaves and other natural yard debris from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday through Nov. 14. Previously, the facility was not open Monday and operated for seven hours a day, rather than 10 hours.
“We started with the expanded hours on Monday, and it was just to better accommodate people who are bringing their leaves in,” said Mike Roberts, who oversees the operation of the facility. “This is the fi rst year we’ve done this. We realize people work and have busy schedules. We’re just trying to give them some additional time at thebeginning and end of each day.”
In addition to clearing yards, stormwater drains and other areas of leaves, the program is important because the leaves are ground up and serve as animportant ingredient in the composting process.
“A lot of people want to get rid of all the leaves in their yards, but the leaves are vital to what we do as well,” Roberts said. “We normally take in a lot ofleaves, but there aren’t long lines of cars waiting to get in like the ones we see during compost giveaways. Residents normally don’t have to worry about getting tied up in something like that.”
