SPRINGDALE A group of local investors led by Wayne Britt, a former Tyson Foods CEO, recently acquired Game On Promotions LLC in Fayetteville. The other investors include an affiliate of Little Rock-based Stephens Inc.
The new company - 5 Star Sports Calendar - signed an agreement Monday to purchase the operating assets and “Game On” naming rights. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, according to Corey Osborne, chief development officer for the company.
Britt will serve as president and chief executive officer for the new venture. While the sports calendar world is a long way from poultry processing, Britt said the “principals of any business include taking care of customers, suppliers and people.” He also serves on the board of Arvest Bank in Springdale.
Mark McQueen, founder of Game On Promotions will continue working for the new company as consultant, Osborne said.
McQueen launched Game On Promotions from Athletic World Advertising in May 2008 with just six employees. In October 2008, McQueen purchased the operating assets from Athletic World Advertising, where he had previously worked as CEO. Athletic World Advertising had faced some financial challenges following the death of its founder Greg Ogdon in August 2007.
“I am encouraged that the acquisition will provide a solid foundation to realize the success of the business model envisioned when we launched Game On,” McQueen said.
To date the company has expanded its customer reach to 47 states and employs 127 people, Osborne said.
Another local face - Dick Johnson, former Fayetteville School District athletic director - recently joined the company as vice president of school development.
“Coach Johnson is a great fit as he draws upon his experience and knowledge of school systems to better provide the services schools need especially in terms of raising revenue,” Osborne said.
Osborne said aside from the name change, it’s business as usual. The company provides high quality, full-color sports products for high school and collegiate athletic departments, with revenue sharing opportunities.
