Flu Clinic Gives Nearly 10,000 Shots

— A mass influenza vaccination clinic gave out nearly 10,000 doses of seasonal flu and swine flu shots, according to Washington County officials.

The Oct. 29 clinic at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale distributed 1,451 doses of H1N1 vaccine to high-risk patients, including small children and pregnant women. Another 6,877 seasonal flu shots were given, most of them to adults.

Only 1,058 children got seasonal flu vaccinations at the clinic, but many children in the region had already received the shotsat school, said Rick Johnson, health specialist for the county department of emergency management.

The total doses given were more than double the approximately 4,000 administered at a similar clinic last year. Consolidating the clinic at the Jones Center after severe weather threatened to complicate a drive-through site at Drake Field in Fayetteville didn’t pose any problem, Johnson said.
