Town Hall Meeting Set For Friday
JUDGE OFFERS OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS LOCAL GOVERNMENT, CONVENIENCE CENTER
Wednesday, November 4, 2009
BENTONVILLE County Judge Dave Bisbee will host a town hall meeting at the Benton County Administration Building at noon Friday.
For the past month, Bisbee and his staff have hosted public news conferences, inviting the media and the public to spend their lunch with him todiscuss county government.
“Our idea was we had two or three reporters that we were not doing a good job communicating with andthey were having to (file Freedom Of Information Act requests), and I do not want anyone to feel they have to FOI me,” Bisbee said.
Hosting public news conferences o◊ered Bisbee an opportunity to take questions from the media while hearing concerns from county residents. Because of the recent merger of the area’s two newspaper companies, Bisbee’s public news conferences are now being called town hall meetings.
Since starting the meetings, Bisbee said he has been able to get good feedback about the county’s needs.
“There are things out there that I did not know about that people are bringing to my attention,” Bisbee said, citing a recent conference held in Siloam Springs as an example.
“The thing that surprised me the most was the problem with household trash that was raised in Siloam Springs,” Bisbee said, noting while administrators have not come up with a solution to that problem, theyare still working on it.
During the town hall meeting Friday, Bisbee and key members of his staff will discuss the county’s new convenience center that will allow residents to drop o◊trash that ordinarily would not be picked up by trash collectors.
The town hall meeting will be on the third fl oor of the County Administration Building, 215 E. Central Ave. in Bentonville.
