UA jumps coach honored by native country

FAYETTEVILLE — Rolando Greene, the sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps and multis associate head coach for the Arkansas Razorback women's track and field team, has been recognized for his years of service to collegiate track and field.

The National Association of the Bahamas, in conjunction with K-RO Sports, has awarded Greene the OggieGreen Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his 20 years of collegiate coaching in the sport of track and field. Greene was recognized at a ceremony in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. this past weekend.

"This is a great honor for Coach Greene," Razorback head coach Lance Harter said. "He has been such an integral part of our staff because of his abilities to recruit and train some ofthe best sprinters, jumpers and multi-event athletes in collegiate track and field. This award recognizes all the hard work he has done. It's very special that the National Association of the Bahamas, his home country, is recognizing his talents."

Greene is entering his 13th season with the Razorbacks. Prior to arriving in Fayetteville in the fall of 1996, Greene was an assistantcoach with the Minnesota Golden Gophers' women's track team. He also spent six seasons as an assistant at what is now Missouri State University.

During his 20 years coaching on the collegiate level, Greene has guided 80 All-Americans, eight Southeastern Conference Champions, five NCAA individual champions, six Olympians and three athletes who have competed at the WorldChampionships.

Additionally, his athletes have competed at the World Junior Championships, the World University Games, the Pan Am Games, the NACAC Championships and the Senior Central American Championships. He has served on the coaching staffs for the Central American Championships and the NACAC Championships.

In 2004, he was namedthe U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association's National Assistant Coach of the Year. He followed that up with the USTFCCCA Mideast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2007.

Greene's student-athletes have set every Arkansas school record in his specific events: 60-800 meters, hurdles, sprint relays, multievents, long jump and triple jump.
