PE4Life training scholarships available

PE4Life, a national nonprofit that advocates physical activity for all, is offering scholarships through the Blue and You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas for local schools that wish to attend PE4Life Academy Training during the 2009-10 school year.

PE4Life maintains that physical education should be directed toward all students, offer a variety of fitness, sport and leisure activities, provide a safe and encouraging learning environment, utilize individual assessments; extend beyond the walls of the gymnasium, and be offered daily. The group also believes children should be graded on effort, not athletic ability.

The PE4Life Academy includes a two-day training session for school or district teams that focuses on how to implement PE4Life principles. Teams should consist of a school administrator, a school board member, community leaders, physical education teachers or school nurses. Teams can include up to 10 people.

Scholarships will cover the cost of training, which is about $4,000, and up to $1,000 in travel reimbursements per team. Application deadline is Aug. 15.
