Shiers taught, too

Posted: July 29, 2009 at 7:17 p.m.

— Ken Shiers brought more to the table as a Pea Ridge patrolman than just patrolling the streets, Shiers was the first certified law enforcement instructor hired for the city of Pea Ridge.

Ken Shiers died Friday at home.

"Officer Ken Shiers was a definite asset to the Pea Ridge Police Department. He brought us a multitude of experience and knowledge," Police Chief Tim Ledbetter said. "He was well liked around the county and always had a sense of humor about him. He was ready to help and assist - even to backing up a fellow officer while in his pajamas.

"The loss of Officer Shiers is a very big detriment to the Pea Ridge Police Department as well as to area law enforcement agencies," he said.

Shiers taught law enforcement classes at Pea Ridge to assist other officers staying current on training.
