Senator Kim Hendren: 'Hard choices might be on horizon'

Posted: July 29, 2009 at 8:12 p.m.

— State Senator Kim Hendren, RGravette, is taking a hope-forthe-best attitude about how a new provision of the state constitution will serve the state.

Hendren was opposed to a 2008 proposal, now enacted, that changed biannual state legislative sessions to annual ones.

The new amendment will have state lawmakers workingon the state budget early in 2010, and could provide a good test of how well the proposal will work, said Hendren, who opposed annual sessions and campaigned against the idea last year.

"Even though I was opposedto annual sessions, this is certainly going to give us a chance to take a look at it, because we may have to make some hard choices come January of next year," Hendren said. "We'll have to see what happens."
