Ice-storm recovery aid to be received

— Benton County will share with 29 other Arkansas counties in more than $9 million in federal Department of Transportation money, part of the $14 million in total federal aid being provided to help Arkansas' recovery from the January ice storm.

The funds are provided for ongoing cleanup efforts in the northern part of Arkansas, U.S.

Sens. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., and Mark Pryor, D-Ark., and U.S. Reps. Marion Berry, DArk., Vic Snyder, D-Ark., andJohn Boozman, R-Ark. said in a recent news release.

The $9.84 million from DOT will be distributed for Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Clay, Cleburne, Conway, Craighead, Crawford, Cross, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Mississippi, Newton, Poinsett, Pope, Randolph, Searcy, Sharp, Stone, Van Buren, and Washington counties, the release says.

FEMA will also provide $2.01 million for Craighead Electric Cooperative and $2.98 million for North Arkansas Electric Cooperative, the release said.
