Heritage High School yearbook staff attends summer workshop

— While their fellow students were resting and soaking up the summer sun, 15 members of the 2009-2010 Rogers Heritage High School yearbook staff were racking up awards at the Jostens Summer Yearbook Workshop on June 10-11 on the campus of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.

The staff took home top awards for past and future yearbooks at the two-day workshop. The 2009 Heritage won Best of Show for the most liked yearbook as voted on by fellow camp attendees. The staff also won Best Yearbook, voted on by staff instructors and facilitators, for their planning and development of the 2010 Heritage.

Taylor Kindell, a new member of The Heritage staff, also won Best Photo taken at the workshop for the photograph she took of fellow staffer Kristen Hoover.

By the end of the two-day workshop, the staff had developed a theme concept for volume two of The Heritage, sketched a cover design, and designed several opening and template pages for use in the yearbook. They also participated in discussions on yearbook coverage and design trends they could incorporate into the coming year's book.

While at the camp, students learned from and worked with former yearbook adviser and expert Laura Schahb, a national creative accounts manager for Jostens. Students attending the camp included Emily Bell,Kaitlyn Best, Caden Bolton, Tyler Clark, Victoria Crawford, Hailey Dotson, Lakyn Frey, Charles Hart, Kristen Hoover, Taylor Kindell, Samantha Lewis, Caitlin McAfee, Sandy Moran, Alex Palmer and Bryan Serrano.
