Attending 4-H Garden Fair

Posted: July 29, 2009 at 7:47 p.m.

— Members of the Bloomfield 4-H

Club recently took part in the

Benton County 4-H Garden Fair.

Club members arrived at Bentonville at 6 a.m. to exhibit the fruits of their hard work for the summer.

The Garden Fair provides an educational experience that demonstrates the process of

growing and marketing local, fresh produce. There were over40 categories of vegetables and flowers in which the members had opportunity to enter produce from their own garden. Judging was based on uniformity in size, shape, color, maturity and type, as well as showmanship.

Once the judging was over, all the vegetables from the fair were sold at the Bentonville Farmers Market. Money raised was then put back in to the Garden Fair fund for next year.

Every member of the Bloomfield 4-H club who attended came home with a handful of ribbons. Many brought home best-of-show ribbons.

The following awards were won by club members: First place market basket - Matt Lambert; Second place market basket - Dustin Dixon; Junior overall champion - Matt Nance; Senior overall champion - Dustin Dixon; Exceptional entries from four categories - Dustin Dixon; Exceptional market basket entry - Matt Lambert.
