Trial set in slaying at Paris Wal-Mart

Posted: July 28, 2009 at 6:12 a.m.

— Trial is to start Wednesday for a man accused of killing a worker in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Paris.

Witnesses say 60-year-old Robert "Mickey" James of Paris had fought with 40-year-old Tony Rice before Rice was fatally shot. James is charged with first-degree murder.

Witnesses said a number of shots were fired, the last of which struck Rice in the neck, killing him.

James has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect but was found mentally competent to stand trial. He's being held on $1 million bond at the Logan County Jail.
