LITTLE ROCK 100 YEARS AGO July 28, 1909
That Governor Donaghey and the State Capitol Commission expect to ignore the injunction granted by the Pulaski County Chancery Court, restraining them from further work on the capitol building, now seems possible. Although neither the governor, commissioners or counsel would make any statement last night, it is generally believed that they will proceed with work on the capitol and risk contempt and any other proceedings.

Governor Faubus today proposed that the Little Rock School Board integrate Horace Mann and Hall high schools and leave the other schools to those parents and students who want segregated facilities. Under the plan, white and Negro boys would attend one of the schools, while girls of both races would go to the other. The governor made this proposal in letters today to members of the board.

Twin City Bank of North Little Rock has decided to renew its fight to establish two branch offices south of the Arkansas River. TCB, stung by a decision last week forbidding it from opening a branch in Sherwood, filed suit Friday in Pulaski County Circuit Court against the state Bank Board to force the board to consider two dormant applications to open branch offices in Little Rock. Act 256 of 1983 allows banks to set up branch offices on unincorporated land so long as the branch is in the same county and within six miles from the city limits in which the main office is located. One of the proposed Little Rock locations, however, already has been annexed by the city.

The Arkansas attorney general's office, alleging nearly 300 violations of the state "lemon law," began battling international auto manufacturer DaimlerChrysler on Tuesday in a trial likely to last into next week and involve almost 100 witnesses. Attorney General Mark Pryor, in a suit filed two years ago by his predecessor Winston Bryant, is demanding a $10,000 penalty for each of 278 consumer complaints to the state against Daimler.
