FAYETTEVILLE Boyle awarded scholarships
Joseph Boyle of Goshen was awarded a LeadershipScholarship from the University of Arkansas. He graduated from Fayetteville High School. He plans to major in biology. He is the son of Joseph T. and Bernadette Boyle.
Leadership Scholarships providing up to $2,000 per year toward tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board to top students from Arkansas and the nation.
Leadership Scholars represent the top 5 percent of students throughout the United States, often being recruited by the county'stop-tier institutions.
Other scholarships Boyle was awarded include a $1,000 Cargill Community Scholarship from the National FFA Organization, the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship and a band scholarship.
Coffey wins technology scholarship
Hannah Coffey of Prairie Grove recently received $500 from the National Center for Appropriate Technology to pursue education. The Next Generation Graduation Award provides $500 to graduating high school seniors who are children of center employees. In this year's first round of awards, three students received funding.
To qualify for the award, graduating high schoolseniors must plan to attend a college, university, or technical or vocational school. Coffey is the daughter of center program specialist Linda Coffey and Ken Coffey. She graduated from Prairie Grove High School on May 16 and will attend Harding University in Searcy, starting in August. Coffey plans to earn a bachelor's degree and then pursue a license and master's degree in physical therapy and become a physical therapist.
Farmington superintendent completes program
The Arkansas Leadership Academy announced that Ron Wright, superintendent at Farmington School District, was honored for completing the Superintendents' Institute at the academy's May session. Wright was among 24 Arkansas superintendents selected to participate in the institute at Lake Point Conference Center in Russellville.
The yearlong institute focused on enhancing participants' leadership skills. Specific topics addressed were planning for the future in education, understanding and managing change, building leadership teams, developing accountability systems, building collaborative community partnerships, and leading leaders in the learning process.
