Bentonville 13s knocked out of state

— The Bentonville All-Stars were bounced from the 13-yearold Babe Ruth North Arkansas State Tournament in Mountain Home with a 16-4 loss to Springdale on Monday.

Bentonville finished 2-2 in the tournament after consecutive losses. The All-Stars beat Batesville (13-3) on Friday and Johnson County (18-1) on Saturday before losing 12-10 to Mountain Home in the winner's bracket final on Sunday.

J.D. Speed earned the pitching win against Batesville, striking out six. Peyton Fitch, Jackson Hannah and Will Jibas all had extra-base hits.

Against Johnson County, Mike Smith was the winning pitcher and the Tigers scored 13 runs in the top of the second inning.

Against Springdale on Monday, Bentonville jumped ahead 2-0 before giving up five runs in the third inning and never led again.

Jay Austin went 2 for 3 for the Tigers.

As tournament host, Bentonville is assured of a berth into next week's Southwest Regional Tournament at Phillips Park.
