SPRINGDALE Bentonville's unbeaten run through the 15-year-old Babe Ruth North State Tournament hit a speed bump Monday afternoon.
Mountain Home defeated the All-Stars 8-3 in a rain-delayed baseball game at the Tyson Complex in Springdale, sending Bentonville to the loser's bracket.
Bentonville, 2-1 in the tournament, was scheduled to play an elimination game Monday night against Fort Smith Church League or Springdale. Results were not available at press time.
Luke Crenshaw and Joey Nemisi each drove in runs for Bentonville, which led 2-0 after two innings but fell behind 3-2 in the third and never led again.
"I believe we counted six unearned runs," Bentonville coach Kevin Swartwood said. "We had some costly errors."
Dylan Poe scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning for Bentonville.
Mountain Home, 3-0 in the tournament, advances to the championship game at 5 p.m. today. It will have to be defeated twice. An "if necessary" game would follow at 7:30 p.m.
The tournament winner receives an invitation to play in the Southwest Regional Tournament that begins Aug. 6 at the James Butts Complex in Siloam Springs.
The Siloam Springs All-Stars will have an automatic bid as tournament hosts.
