Mount Sequoyah Gardens Park being renovated

FAYETTEVILLE — The city of Fayetteville is making use of nearby sewer line work to develop the Mount Sequoyah Gardens Park.
Located at 100 N. Summit Ave., on the east side of Mount Sequoyah, the land is the former location of the city'swater treatment and storage facility.
It was dedicated as a city park in 1998 by former Mayor Fred Hanna. A resolution approved by the City Council includes the preservation and enhancement of panoramic views of Fayetteville and the surrounding mountains.
There is a greenhouse on the property, which city horticulturists use to grow plants for the landscaped areas in Fayetteville, including the Square gardens.
Two abandoned underground water tanks are being filled with soil and capped to prevent any hazards, and a former red brick pump station building on the southwest cornerof the land is being removed. This work should be finished by the end of October.
Contractors doing nearby sewer improvements have been asked to use excavated material to re-grade the park land. This will create more greenspace, Carole Jones, a city park planner, wrote in an e-mail.
