AMERICAN LEGION AAA STATE TOURNAMENT Lindsey pounds FS Kerwins to keep state title hopes alive

NORTH LITTLE ROCK NORTH LITTLE ROCK - The Lindsey & Associates Dodgers will live to fight another day.
The Dodgers mustered a 15-4, run-rule pounding of Zone 1 rival Fort Smith Kerwins in an elimination game in the American Legion AAA State Tournament at Burns Park in North Little Rock Sunday.
Lindsey (36-10) will next face the loser of Sunday's late match between Texarkana and Bryant at 5 p.m. today. Bryant led Texarkana, 12-7, in the seventh inning at presstime.
Lindsey's Ethan McKenzie twirled all seven innings to keep the Sportsmen at bay while the Dodgers piled on the runs. McKenzie improved to 5-0. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits, walked two and fanned five.
The Dodgers clubbed 16 hits, eight for extra bases. Christian Allen went 3 for 5 with a homer and three RBI. Blake Sanford went 2 for 3 with a double and a three-run homer. Andrew Thames went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBI. Ryan Pongonis went 2 for 4 with a double a two RBI. Taylor Shaddy and Gordon Miller each went 2 for 3 with a double apiece. Blake Roberts went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
The Dodgers led 1-0 before a seven-run third gave them a commanding edge. Allen's two-run homer sparked the surge and Sanford's three-run jack sealed it.
