Valor Series Comes To A Close

The series of articles “Saluting American Valor” ends today.

It told the type of stories we should have told for years. After the “shock and awe” of airstrikes and initial invasions were over, the need for courage did not go away. Arguably, the need for courage - to fight an enemy who was not shocked, awed and on the run - became greater.

The series originated after Warren Stephens of Stephens Media read, in memorial, the citation his father received for the Silver Star in World War II. The younger Mr. Stephens was amazed at what his father had done, and wondered how many of his newspapers’ readers would be surprised to know what our soldiers were doing. That’s where the idea for the series was born.

We thank the troops for their service and for the numerous, generous and kind statements of approval for the series we have received.

Truly, they are the heroes among us.
