Rogers Girls Fall Again

— Cleveland (Tenn.) broke away from a 12-12 deadlock after a quarter to build a double-digit halftime lead before holding off Rogers High 53-42 on Wednesday in the 21st Greenbank Ladies Classic.

The Lady Raiders (14-2) controlled the glass in losers’ bracket action. Cleveland held a 33-21 spread in the rebounding department by day’s end. Rogers (9-4) was also held to 4 of 20 on its 3-point attempts.

“We played a dang good team,” Rogers coach Preston Early said. “They were bigger and faster than us and they made plays. They were real athletic.”

The Lady Raiders jumped to a 14-point lead early in the third period before Rogers pulled to within 36-30 early in the final quarter. But an 11-4 run by Cleveland pushed the margin back to double-figures with the Lady Mounties unable to get closer than nine points the rest of the way.

“We were tied at the end of one but we had a tough second quarter,” Early said. “We got good looks, we just didn’t shoot it well.”

Cleveland’s scoring attack was balanced with four players reaching double figures. Cierra Anderson scored 13 and Q’Schara Brown added 11. Jessica King and Britny Latham contributed 10 apiece. O’Schara and King pulled down nine boards each. King’s strong effort also included a game-high seven assists.

For Rogers, Oklahoma signee Morgan Hook led the way with 13 points and a team-best three assists.
