Communities of faith: Orthodox priest to lead icon retreat

— Paul Fetsko, a Greek Orthodox priest and chaplain at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, will lead a program on iconography Jan. 29-30 at St. Scholastica Monastery’s retreat center.

Participants will learn about the history of icons, sacred images of Christ, Mary and the saints, which have inspired Eastern Christians for centuries. The retreat will focus on the use of icons in daily devotion and how the images can aid in spiritual transformation.

Leadership school schedules courses

FAYETTEVILLE - The Servant Leadership School of Northwest Arkansas has several courses scheduled for the spring semester. They include:

Servant Leadership II - Radical Hospitality: This 11-week discussion group will focus on the book, Radical Hospitality: Benedict’s Way of Love, by Daniel Homan and Lonni Collins Pratt. Participants will discuss the Benedictine teaching of hospitality, as well as silence, Scripture reading and lectio divina. The class will meet 1:30-3 p.m. Thursdays beginning Jan. 21. Tuition is $75.

The Journey to Authenticity: Identity, Discernment, Accountability - This threepart course will help participants discover their spiritual gifts, discern a sense of calling and establish a pattern for reflection. Classes will be 6-8 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 11. Cost is $80.

Answering the Ca ll: Discerning Vocation, Taking Steps Toward Change - Participants will explore what God is calling them to do, how to serve others and how to stay on the right path. The class will include journaling, prayer and discussion. Classes will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Jan. 21. Cost is $35.

Introduction to the Enneagram - The class will focus on personality types. Classes will be 6-8 p.m. Feb. 12 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 13. Cost is $45.

Praying With Color - This workshop will be an introduction to intercessory prayer using color. It’s based on the book Praying in Color. No artistic skills are necessary. The workshop will be 9 a.m.-noon March 27. Cost is $30 with supplies provided.
