Crystal Amy Webster

MAUMELLE — Crystal Amy Webster, 31, of Maumelle went to be with her Lord on Dec. 27, 2009, in North Little Rock.

She was born in Springdale on March 20, 1978, to Robert Jackson Webster and LaDonna Dene Cornelius.

She attended Fayetteville High School, but graduated from Fort Zumwalt South High School in St. Peters, Mo., with honors. After high school she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and began her nurse’s training in San Antonio. After her discharge, she graduated from the Fayetteville School of Cosmetology and worked for several beauty shops before returning to nursing school at NWACC. She was five months from receiving her registered nurse degree from UAMS in Little Rock.

Crystal is survived by her fiance, Chris Covey of the home; her father, Jack Webster of St. Peters, Mo.; her mother, LaDonna Brown of Okeechobee, Fla.; her brother, Joshua Webster and his wife, Jacqueline, of Lowell; her niece, Julie Webster of Lowell, who was the light of her life; paternal grandmother, Mildred Webster of Fayetteville; maternal grandparents, Jim and Charlene Cornelius of West Fork; uncles, Bryan Webster of Tulsa, Okla., and Kenneth Webster and his wife, Roma, of Fayetteville; and aunt, Kathy Cornelius of West Fork.

Memorial services will be held at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Patricia Ann Oxford

FARMINGTON — Pattie Oxford, born Patricia Ann Shepard to Guy and Thelma Shepard on Feb. 17, 1949, passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2009, after a long battle with leukemia. She was a resident of Farmington.

Pattie, also known as “Pat Ann” by family and old friends, was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She worked at J.B. Hunt Transport for 22 years where her co-workers enjoyed her quick wit, infectious smile and resounding laugh. A tough and tender patriot, Pattie worked hard, played hard, and loved her family, her friends, her work, and her country.

Pattie is survived by son-in-law and daughter, Jon and Cecily Poulsom of Fayetteville; daughter and son-in-law, Steven and Kristen Schmitt of Fayetteville; stepfather and mother, Dr. Tom B. and Thelma Watson of Lavaca; sister, Sharon Cashmore of Bentonville; grandchildren, Karina Hunt, Thomas Poulsom, Carly Poulsom, Zane Michael Schmitt and Crosby Schmitt all of Fayetteville; nephew, William Allred of Fayetteville; and niece, Britainee Cashmore of Bentonville.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. today at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Rollins Funeral Home with Pastor Don Carter officiating. Interment will be in Roller-Gateway Ridge Cemetery in Gateway.

Dale L. Casto

SPRINGDALE — Dale L. Casto, 50, of Springdale died Dec. 16, 2009, at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale. He was born Aug. 11, 1959, in Munich, Germany, to Master Sergeant Harrison L. Casto and Rhea Ellenburg Casto.

He was an attorney and was also affiliated with Bright Beginnings Preschool in Bentonville.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Nolan Casto; a son, Petty Officer 3rd Class Kyle Casto of Seoul, South Korea; a sister, Gayle Huchingson of West Memphis; a brother, Gary “Corky” Casto of Olive Branch, Miss.; one niece; and three nephews.

Services were held on Dec. 21, 2009, in West Memphis.

FAYETTEVILLE — Donald Wheatley, 56, of Fayetteville, formerly of Hot Springs, died Dec. 25, 2009, in Fayetteville.

Born July 10, 1953, in Wray, Colo., he was predeceased by his wife, Susan Wheatley; grandchild, Christopher Wheatley; and his mother, Neioma Wheatley.

Survivors include one daughter, Jami Wheatley of Fayetteville; one son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Kori Wheatley of Fayetteville; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Sandy Wheatley of Denver; sister and brother-in-law, Dona and Keith Wilt of Durango, Colo.; three grandchildren, Sydney Wheatley, Luke Wheatley and Katherine Reed; and father and stepmother, Robert and Phyllis Wheatley of Denver.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Gross Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Wilma Ruth Moren Samuel

FAYETTEVILLE — Wilma Ruth Moren Samuel, 80, of Fayetteville died Dec. 29, 2009, at North Hills Life Care and Rehab in Fayetteville.

She was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Lowell to James Andrew and Alma King Moren. She married Lawrence Elmo Samuel on Jan. 12, 1946. She was employed to Beall’s Department Store in Paris, Texas, for several years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Elkins.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Elmo Samuel of the home; two daughters, Marlene Jeffus and husband, Jeff, of Wesley and Lea Ann Kirby and husband, Jim, of Rogers; two sisters, Clara Lea Birk and husband, George, of Springdale and Dorthea Diel of Montrose, Colo.; sister-in-law, Wilma Samuel of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Scott Jeffus and his wife, Shaunna, and Lora Beth Zeitz and her husband, Pete; and three great-grandchildren, Alexia and Sam Jeffus and Ellie Zeitz.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Clifty Cemetery with the Rev. Rex Griffin officiating under the direction of Beard’s Funeral Chapel.

The family will receive friends at Beard’s Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Eulala Gloria Brown

LINCOLN — Eulala Gloria Brown, 87, died Dec. 27, 2009, at Prairie Grove Health and Rehab. She was born April 24, 1922, in Cameron, W.Va., to Marcus and Ida Rush Howard.

She attended the New Sulphur Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Gene R. Brown of Winter Haven, Fla.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove. Burial will be in Fayetteville National Cemetery.

Mary Bell Mounce

BETHEL HEIGHTS — Mary Bell Mounce, 83, of Bethel Heights passed away Dec. 27, 2009, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale.

Mary was the daughter of Frank and Ollie (Baker) McGarrah born on Sept. 24, 1926, in Lowell. She married J.D. Mounce on July 19, 1943. He preceded her on Aug. 7, 1999. Mrs. Mounce always helped her husband with their brick mason business. She belonged for many years to the Revival Tabernacle Church.

Survivors include one son, Ronald K. Mounce and wife, Carolyn, of Lowell; three daughters, Arlean Mounce Dunn of Springdale, Linda F. Luper and husband, Billy Wayne, of Lowell and Brenda K. Pace and husband, Dale, of Lowell; one brother, Leonard McGarrah of Bethel Heights; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by one daughter, Joyce Faye Mounce; one grandson, Jerry Dunn; two sisters, Josephine McClure and Christine Mounce; and one brother, D. Virgil McGarrah.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Eden officiating.

Pallbearers will be David Dunn, Kevin Luper, Rodney Pace, Auston Blakeley, Josh Luper and Robert Steely.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Dunn, Russell Mounce, Roy Cofer, Linnie McGarrah and Joe Anderson.

Burial to follow at Hickory Creek Cemetery in Lowell.

Arlo Evans

SPRINGDALE — Arlo Evans, 37, of Springdale passed away Dec. 28, 2009, in Springdale.

He was born Dec. 13, 1972, in Woodland, Calif., the son of Dodie Smothers Hunter and Johnny Warford. He was an assistant manager for Arkansas Collision Center in Springdale. Arlo graduated from Springdale High school in 1991 and also graduated from the University of Arkansas with an associate’s degree in journalism.

He is survived by his parents, Jim and Dodie Hunter of Springdale; his sister, Michelle Hunter of Fayetteville; a village of surrogate parents, including aunt Terry Niccum of Bentonville, aunt Jalee Smothers of Gulf Port, Miss., and uncle and aunt Herb and Lori Evans of Fayetteville. Arlo is also survived by his grandmother, Linda Tunnell of Rogers; great-grandmother, Freida Tunnell of Rogers; aunt and uncle, Nikki and Ron Corsey of Lowell; aunt, Robin Weatherbee of Garfield; uncle Bill Hunter of Santa Maria, Calif.; and lots of cousins and friends who love him very much and will miss him. Meeting him on the other side was his loving grandfather, Euel Smothers of Heaven. He was a wonderful son, loving brother, great friend and a really nice person.

ROGERS — Ruth B. Griggs, 84, of Rogers, formerly of Huntsville, died Dec. 27, 2009, at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville. She was born Sept. 20, 1925, at Kingston, the daughter of Vernon and Venna Stansell Thompson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kingston First Southern Baptist Church. She was the widow of Freeman William Griggs, who preceded her in death on June 19, 1985.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Louise and Jerry Hawkins of Huntsville, Virginia and Ronnie Parker of Bridger, Mont., and Kathy Bass of Rogers; one brother, Johnny Thompson of Springdale; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Lovena Tyson officiating. Catherine Hovey

SPRINGDALE — Catherine “Katy” Rose Taldo Hovey, 88, of Springdale died Dec. 28, 2009, at Circle of Life Hospice. She was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Tontitown to Joseph Teofile and Dora Rose Sbanotto.

Katy was an X-ray and lab technician and a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springdale. She was a CCD teacher, a member of the altar society, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She and her husband, Charles, owned and operated Joyce’s Drug Store and City Pharmacy in Springdale for many years.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Taldo, Freddie Taldo and Joseph “Joe” Taldo; and one grandson Joseph Glen Fears.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Hovey, of the home whom she married Jan. 30, 1946; one son, Ronald Hovey of Springdale; one daughter, Cheryl Fears and husband, Roy, of Springdale; four sisters, Beatrice Mussino of Tontitown, Patsy Phillips-Graham of Springdale, Ida Mae Brady of McDonough, Ga., and Sarah Russell of Tontitown; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springdale. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Rosary services will be at 6 p.m. today at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.

Pallbearers will be John David Fears, Matt Fears, Jason Fears, Mike Fears, Chip Hovey and Allen Wood.

Jewell Dean Mayes

SPRINGDALE — Jewell Dean “Hudson” Mayes, age 87, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2009, in Springdale.

She was born Dec. 6, 1922, to George and Arminda (Landon) Hudson. She was a member of the “Red Hat” Ladies in Springdale and of the Blue Eye Sewing Club. She was also of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her two sons, Harold and wife, Deborah, Mayes of Springdale and Daniel G. and wife, Brenda Mayes of Springdale; two daughters, Helen K. Smith of Hindsville and Delores and husband, Ray, Braswell of Garfield; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; three sisters; one grandson, Brian Mayes; and one son-in-law, Jerry Smith.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville with Brother David Donaldson officiating. Interment will be at the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service, Inc.

Roland Elmo Davis

FARMINGTON — Roland Elmo Davis, 86, a resident of Farmington, passed away peacefully Dec. 28, 2009, at his home in Farmington.

He was born June 30, 1923, in Maud, Okla., the son of Thomas Franklin and Nora Myrtle Rylant Davis. Roland attended the Carr City School in Oklahoma.

Roland was actively involved in the community. He served as assistant fire chief at the Farmington Fire Department for 23 years. He was an elected city councilman for a number of years. During his years or service, Roland proudly served as Farmington city inspector and volunteered as a policeman.

In 2007 Roland and Edna Davis received an honorary key to the city for their dedication and support to the community. In 2007, both Roland and Edna were privileged to lead the Farmington Christmas Parade as grand marshals. Roland and Edna ran Collins and Davis Grocery for 26 years, happily providing delicious sandwiches for many.

He drove a school bus for Farmington Schools and was a former member of the Lions Club. As a member of Farmington Friends, Roland helped provide fruit baskets at Christmas time. He loved fishing and spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Mae Davis of the home; one brother, Albert E. Davis of Austin, Texas; and one sister, Ima Bell Williams of Oklahoma City; four children, all of Farmington: Ronald and Glenda Davis, Thomas and Lynn Davis, Nora and Ernie Taylor and Gregory and Alta Davis; 13 grandchildren, Micheal Taylor, Joy Hutcherson, Kim Garner, Brad Davis, Carlie Tapley, Sarah Brock, Kelly Rogers, Katie Murr, Jacob McWhorter, Ashley Thomas, Maegan Shreve, Jessica Davis and Shane Davis; 19 great-grandchildren, Chase Garner, Bailey Hutcherson, Kailynn Jackson, Ashtin Murr, Britton Garner, Mcarter Murr, Sidney Brock, Taylor Garner, Maecy Garner, Sherrill Davis, Dallas Taylor, Rylan Brock, Kalleigh Shreve, Chloie Thomas, Blake Rogers, Kaylee Murr, Shannon Davis, Anastyn Taylor and Kenleigh Shreve.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. this evening at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Farmington Church of Christ in Farmington with Larry Krudwig officiating. Burial will be in the Farmington Cemetery in Farmington.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Thomas, Bobby Shreve, Bryan Rogers, Craig Murr, Marty Hutcherson, Ryan Brock and Thad Garner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Cooper, Kenneth Shelly, Loy Phillips and Farmington volunteer firemen past and present.
