County Courthouse To Open Today

— The Washington County Courthouse is expected to open today, after being closed for two days with no heat.

“Right now, there’s water boiling and it looks like tomorrow we’ll be having business as usual at the courthouse,” County Judge Marilyn Edwards said Tuesday afternoon. “This has just been a nightmare.”

Edwards said the outage came at a particularly bad time because people have so much business to do that involves the courthouse at the end of the year.

The heating system was repaired by midday Tuesday and three floors had heat by mid-afternoon, Building Maintenance Superintendent Ron Wood said Tuesday. Crews were working to get heat back on the other floors.

“All we need now is just a little time,” Wood said.

Wood said the building’s heat is from a closed loop system that heats and circulates water.

The boiler for the 25-year-old system went down in the early morning hours Monday and the building was just too cold to bring people in for work and business, Edwards and Wood said.
