Lonzo James Self

BENTONVILLE — Lonzo James Self, 85, of Bentonville died Dec. 27, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. He was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Murray to Artie and Dovey Watson Self.

He was a carpenter for many years.

Cremation arrangements are by Epting Funeral Home in Bentonville.

Lillian Agnes Groharing

FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Lillian Agnes Groharing, 94, of Fayetteville passed away Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Springdale. She was born Nov. 21, 1915, in Fayetteville to Charles David Tuck and Mary Lucinda (Hutchinson) Tuck. She was a retired office manager for Bulwin Manufacturing and a Baptist.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary L. Jean of Fayetteville, Sue Ridder of Quincy, Ill., and Alice Stefferud of Racine, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Ramona Wright of Carson City, Nev., and Dorothy Cast of Washington; a brother, Ike Tuck of Rogers; two sisters-in-law, Eileen and Deloris Tuck, both of Fayetteville; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Baggett officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to service up until service time. Burial was in Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, Calif.

Shirley Miller

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Shirley Leila Moore Miller, 85, of Germantown, formerly of Rogers, died Dec. 21, 2009. She was born May 1, 1924, in Washington, Iowa, to George E. Pete and Enid Leila Annas Moore.

She was a registered nurse, active in Scouting and in her church.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Miller; her children, Nancy Hugie of Rossville, Tenn., Deanne Fox of Hannibal, Mo., and Keith Miller of Brecksville, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Church Cemetery in Barnard, Mo.

Arrangements are by Price Funeral Home in Maryville, Mo.

Fred Watson

BENTONVILLE — Fred Watson, 65, of Bentonville, died Dec. 21, 2009, at his home. He was born Nov. 20, 1944, in Weatherford, Okla., to Randall and Velma Roberts Watson.

He worked for Bekaert Corp. in Rogers and was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Watson of Bella Vista, and Randy Davis and B.J. Watson, both of Springdale; two brothers, including Floyd Watson and wife Linda of Springdale; two grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements were by Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home of Rogers.

Opal Audine Anderson

PEA RIDGE — Opal Audine Anderson, 91, of Pea Ridge, died Dec. 27, 2009, in Bella Vista after a short illness. She was born April 7, 1918, in Gray County, Okla., to James and Caldonia Burgess.

She was a retired hairdresser, having owned and operated Opal’s Beauty Shop in Perryton, Texas, for approximately 30 years.

She had lived in Perryton from 1933 to 2006. She was a 1936 graduate of Perryton High School and the Amarillo School of Cosmetology. She had been living at Autumn Place Assisted Living in Pea Ridge since 2008.

She married Wilburn J. Anderson on Aug. 15, 1937, in Perryton. He died in 1990.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Wilburn Ray Anderson; daughter-in-law, Dana Ballard Anderson; seven brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Earlene and Bob Greene of Bella Vista; four grandchildren; seven great-grandsons; three stepgreat-granddaughters; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Boxwell Bros. Funeral Chapel in Perryton with interment at the Ochiltree Co. Cemetery in Perryton.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday evening.

Mary Margaret Schuler

BELLA VISTA — Mary Margaret Schuler, 76, of Bella Visa, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Highlands Health Care in Bella Vista, Ark. She was born on Jan. 1, 1933, in St. Paul, Minn., to Daniel Kelleher and Irene Hickey Kelleher.

She was raised and educated in St. Paul, Minn. Mary married George Schuler on June 7, 1952. They lived in St. Paul then Prior Lake, Minn., before moving to Bella Vista in 1988. She was an active golfer and bowler, and enjoyed playing cards and traveling with her bowling team. She was known to many as “Mother Mary.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Schuler; and brother, John “Jack” Kelleher.

She is survived by her husband, George E. Schuler of Bella Vista; two sons, Stephen Schuler of Steven’s Point, Wis., Mark Schuler and wife Kim of Columbia, Ill.; two daughters, Mary Koontz and husband Mike of Vienna, Va., Jean Dunyak of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Kathryn Miller of St. Paul; and eight grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, One St. Bernard Lane, Bella Vista, with Msgr. James Mancini officiating.

Robert Henry Hudgens

ROGERS — Robert Henry Hudgens, 83, born Aug. 23, 1926, in Little Rock to Frederick and Lucille Hudgens, passed away at the Centennial Medical Center in Frisco, Texas, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Hiatt Hudgens, of Crossett.

He is survived by his wife, Harriette W. Hudgens of Rogers; his children, Randall Hudgens and wife, Kathy, of College Station, Texas, Leslie Hill and her husband, Lamar, of Crossett and Susan Mullins and her husband, Mark, of San Antonio; three stepchildren, Robin Steen and husband, Joey, of Batesville, John Williams and wife, Mary, of Plano, Texas, and Matthew Williams of Natchitoches, La.; his sister, Dorothy Young of Portland; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Upon graduating from high school, Robert joined the U.S. Army Air Corps serving most of his enlistment as a corporal.

He graduated from the School of Pharmacy at The College of the Ozarks in 1950. He received an honorary Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas School of Pharmacy and served on the Alumni Board for many years at University of the Ozarks in Clarksville. He was a retired pharmacist and longtime owner of Hudgens Drug Store in Crossett. He and his wife, Marilyn, were one of the founding families of the Crossett Players and as well as the Greater Crossett Area Food Bank. He was a past president of the Crossett Area Chamber of Commerce. He and Harriette made Rogers their permanent home in November of 2000.

Robert will be remembered as a hale and hearty man who was energetic and active even into his later years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. Each September he and Harriette would travel to the White River and fish for trout. Robert could entertain with wonderful tales of duck hunting in his beloved south Arkansas. Robert was also a passionate bridge player. He not only played duplicate bridge with Harriette each week, but also played party bridge three times a week. Another of his great loves was singing. Robert’s beautiful bass voice was an important ingredient in the choir of First Presbyterian Church of Rogers. His love for his church extended beyond choir, however, as he and Harriette were involved in serving home communion and in visiting the sick. Robert was also active in community service. He and Harriette were regular volunteers for local food programs, such as Meals on Wheels, for whom they delivered meals two days per week. Robert’s passionate and outgoing personality and his signature booming laugh made him the perfect ambassador for community or church, but he was always dependent on the presence of his beloved Harriette at his side.

Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Rogers at a later date. Elsie Mae Cutberth

CASSVILLE, Mo. — Elsie Mae Cutberth, 56, of Cassville, Mo., died Dec. 26 at her home. She was born Dec. 10, 1953 at Jacket, Mo., to Ruby Lee and Ruth Frances Pendergraft Cutberth.

She enjoyed crocheting, painting and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Fletcher of Delta, Colo.; two daughters, Alisa Greer and husband Brandon of Bell Haven, N.C., and Dana Stanphill and husband Jason of Pierce City, Mo.; four brothers, including Dale Cutberth of Bella Vista; a sister, Joyce Ward of Bentonville; 14 grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

Service is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel.

Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery.

Edna M. Schuler

LANAGAN, Mo. — Edna M. Schuler, 100, of Lanagan, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, in Rogers. She was born Oct. 12, 1909 in Licking, Mo., the daughter of John Levi & Rosa (Wilshire) Fowler.

She was the former owner of the Southside Restaurant and a mother to many. She was a member of First Christian Church, Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and of the Senior Citizen Center in Lanagan, Mo. Edna loved to square dance, cook and bake pies and was a great caretaker to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Meisner, and her husband, Walter Lewis Schuler; her daughter Donna Marie Schuler and her son Bill Meisner.

She is survived by her children Shirley Kennedy (Gene) of Overland Park, Kan., Don Meisner of Grandview, Mo., Rose Steele (Jerry) of Erie, Colo., David Schuler (Lesa) of Centerton, Ark., Gary Schuler (Kathleen) of Surprise, Ariz., Paul Schuler of Rocky Comfort, Mo., and Chuck Schuler (Barbara) of Anderson, Mo.; 25 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Benton County Funeral Home with Minister David Munoz officiating.
