Agency will take bids for transit programs

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department will accept applications from transit providers, beginning Jan. 4, to participate in two public transportation programs, the agency has announced.

One program is the Job Access and Reverse Commute, which is an operating and capital-assistance program designed to help providers that transport low-income people to and from jobs. Theother is New Freedom, which provides operating and capital assistance for providers involved in transporting people with disabilities.

Electronic copies of the applications for both programs can be found on the department’s Web site at ArkansasHighways.com. Once on the site, users should click on “Programs” followed by “Public Transportation Programs” and then “Federal Programs/Applications.”

Once there, users select“Section 5316” or “Section 5317.” The applications are available in Microsoft Word formats. Agencies may request paper copies by calling the department at (501) 569-2471.

The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. March 3 at the following address: Public Transportation Programs Section, Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, P.O. Box 2261, Little Rock, Ark. 72203-2261, or 10324 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Ark. 72209.
