By the time Little Rock Christian senior tailback Michael Dyer stopped running, he had become Arkansas’ career rushing leader.

Dyer finished with 8,097 yards to shatter the previous mark set by Vernon Hicks of Elaine, who rushed for 7,122 yards from 1996-1998.

Dyer broke the record Oct. 23 at home against Hot Springs Lakeside when he scored on a 22-yard run with 6:57 remaining in the first quarter.

He finished the season with 2,502 yards and 31 touchdowns on 295 carries.

Dyer was immediately moved to the varsity as a freshman and rushed for 901 yards.

He burst on the national scene as a sophomore when he rushed for 2,710 yards - the seventhhighest total in state history and a record for a sophomore - in leading the Warriors to a 13-1 recordand the runner-up spot in Class 5A.

Dyer was named Electronic Arts Sports National Sophomore of the Year, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas, Democrat-Gazette Sophomore Offensive Player of the Year and Democrat-Gazette Metro Offensive Player of the Year.

Dyer was All-Arkansas again as a junior after rushing for 1,984 yards.

In 47 career games, Dyer rushed for at least 100 yards 39 times. He had 11 games with at least 200 yards and five games with at least 300 yards.

Among the most heavily decorated players in Arkansas high school history, Dyer is a two-time state Gatorade Player of the Year and will play in the Under Armour All-American game Jan. 2 in Orlando, Fla.

Dyer has orally committed to Auburn.
