Fort Smith man killed in crash

— William F. Holloway, 64, of Fort Smith, died Thursday when the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu he was driving south on U.S. 71 in Fort Smith crossed the center line and collided with a 2002 Ford Explorer.

Denise Dooley, 17, of Arkoma, Okla., a passenger in the Explorer, suffered head and face injuries, said Cpl. Tim Randolph with the Fort Smith Police Department. She was transported to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, then to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in LittleRock, where she was listed in critical condition late Friday, said Hilary DeMillo, a spokesman for the hospital.

Dennis E. Dooley, 47, of Arkoma, Okla., the driver of the Explorer, and two other passengers in that vehicle had minor injuries, police said.

Weather didn’t play a factor in the crash, Randolph said, although it was raining when the collision occurred at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The rain began turning to sleet about 30 minutes after the accident occurred, Randolph said.
