‘Little House’ coming to arts center

Performances of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie are set Jan. 5-10 at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville.

Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura on the television series, will play the part of Ma in the stage production. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 5-7, 8 p.m. Jan. 8, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Jan. 9, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 10.

The cast members also will visit the Fayetteville Public Library and Washington County Habitat for Humanity while they are here.

At the library, the cast will visit with fans and sign autographs starting at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 5 in the Wal-Mart Storytime Room. Guests also can sign up for a chance to win two tickets to the production.

The cast will attend a Habitat for Humanity staff party as well. Habitat for Humanity affiliates in cities where the play is performed will receive donations at the end of the tour.

Nature center sets family movie night

The Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center in Barling will hold a family movie night at Jan. 8, beginning at 6 p.m.

Guests will be able to view the movie Wall-E on the center’s large projection screen. Parents and children should bring warm clothing, snacks, a flashlight and a blanket or lawn chair to sit on.

The annual Eureka Gras celebration will officially kick off Jan. 9 at 5 p.m. at the Rowdy Beaver Restaurant in Eureka Springs with the introduction of this year’s Eureka Gras Royal Court.

The Kings Day celebration will include reduced drink prices, free snacks, live jazz music and second-line dancing. King cakes will be served, and guests who are masked or dressed in costume will eat free.

The event is the first in a series leading up to Eureka Gras 2010, set Feb. 16.

A masquerade ball is planned Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Crescent Hotel. The annual Hookers and Jokers Ball will be Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. at Best Western Inn of the Ozarks.

The Eureka Gras parade will be Feb. 6 at 2 p.m., followed by a post-parade party at 3:30 p.m. at the Art Colony. A New Orleans-style jazz brunch is planned Feb. 7 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Crescent Hotel.

The newest Eureka Gras event, ArtiGras, will be Feb. 14, 11 a.m. -11 p.m., at the Rowdy Beaver, with an artist reception set Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.

Events conclude with the annual Second Line Pub Krawl at Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. The event begins at the Cathouse Lounge, winds through historic downtown Eureka Springs and ends at Chelsea’s.
