Promenade offers preparedness tips

The Northwest Arkansas chapter of the American Red Cross will launch the “I’ve Got 7” disaster preparedness campaign Saturday and Sunday at the Pinnacle Hills Promenade food court in Rogers. Information sessions are planned for 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the shopping center. Library to screen family movies

The Fayetteville Public Library will host its annual Christmas Movie Marathon at 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the library’s Walker Community Room. Families can enjoy the movies Up, Aliens in the Attack and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian on successive days. The event is free and open to children and families. Kids class at valley nature center

The Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center in Barling will add a weekly activity for children ages 3-7 starting Jan. 1. The 30-minute break, set for 3:45 p.m. each Friday, will include an outdoor activity specially designed for youngsters. Other weekly events at the center include a beginner’s archery program at 2:30 p.m. each Sunday, a guided hike at 10 a.m. each Saturday and a laser shot program at 3 p.m. each Saturday. State park sets New Year events

Mount Magazine State Park near Paris will offer a series of outdoor and indoor events to ring in the New Year. Events begin with a “Highpoint Hike” at 10 a.m. Jan. 1. The easy, guided hike through the winter woods will focus on facts and myths surrounding Arkansas’ highest point. Families can enjoy board and card games at 11 a.m. Jan. 2 in Mount Magazine Lodge’s hearth room. More outdoorminded guests can go bird watching at 2 p.m. Jan. 2 as part of the park’s “Mountaintop Birds” program. Two eagle watch tours also are planned for the first weekend of the year. Tours will be held at 8 a.m. Jan. 2 and Jan. 3. Guests will search for bald eagles and other wintering birds. Binoculars and spotting scopes will be available. All events are free and open to the public with the exception of the eagle watch tours, which cost $8.50. More information is available by calling (479) 963-8502.
