New Year’s Day Tournaments A Tradition

FISHING STARTS EARLY ON JAN. 1

— Anglers with a competitive spirit can start the new year by fishing at two tournaments on New Year’s Day.

Hickory Creek Marina will host its annual tripleformat tournament for black bass, striped bass and crappie. Fishing is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Entry fee is $35 for each tournament. The cost to enter all three is $105.

Anglers can enter on tournament morning at the marina. Split pea soup will be served. Call Hickory CreekMarina at 479-751-7366 for details.

The annual Polar Bear Memorial bass tournament will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. out of Prairie Creek park on New Year’s Day.

Entry fee is $60 per boat. Early entries can be paid at Jeff Cook State Farm Insurance at 108 Crossover Ave., suite C, in Lowell, or at the ramp on tournament morning.

The tournament is a memorial to several deceased anglers who were active in the area bass fi shing community over the years.
