Dixieland Road Extension Bids Lower Than Expected

Lowell officials were happy Tuesday the low bid for a five-lane extension of Dixieland Road came in well below the engineering estimate.

Crowder Construction in Rogers submitted the low bid at $826,877, said Mayor Perry Long. Crowder’s bid is $273,123 lower than the estimate.

“We were very pleased when we opened the bids,” Long said. “The engineers estimated it would cost about $1.1 million or more to build the half-mile extension.”

Five companies submitted bids higher than $1 million. Two other bids were below the $1 million mark, Long said.

The extension will run from just south of the Pleasant Crossings area to Fast Lane Entertainment.

The money for the extension is included in the 2010 budget and doesn’t require city council approval.

Construction should begin on Jan. 6. with a completion date in late May or early June, Long said.
