Margaret Norbeck

BENTONVILLE — Margaret Norbeck, 94, of Bentonville, died Dec. 21, 2009, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale. She was born May 10, 1915, in Milwaukee to Frank Szymanski and Clara Joblinski Szymanski.

She was a homemaker and loved serving her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter John Norbeck; and five siblings.

Margaret is survived by one son, Roger Norbeck and wife Sandy of Bella Vista; two daughters, Judy Davidson and husband Kelly of Bentonville, Nancy Jones of Bentonville, six siblings; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stockdale Funeral Chapel in Rogers, with Dr. James Byrum officiating. A visitation will be held from noon to service time. Burial will be in the Bella Vista Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Margaret Norbeck to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR, 72764.

James L. Weatherby Sr.

BELLA VISTA — James L. Weatherby Sr., known by many as Jim, a former 33-year resident of Bella Vista, passed away on Dec. 18, 2009, in Austin, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Dallas on Dec. 27, 1914, to E.P. and Sara Weatherby. He had a brother and a sister, Edward Pace Jr. and Carolyn Muilman who both preceded him in death.

James graduated from Oak Cliff High School in Dallas in 1931. He attended Texas A&M College and the University of Missouri. After graduation he went to work for the Texas and Pacific Railroad in Dallas. He worked for the “T&P” or its successors for 43 years, moving to St. Louis in 1962 to finish his railroad career with the Missouri Pacific and the Union Pacific. He retired to Bella Vista in May of 1978.

In the fall of 1936, he married Eloise Herring of Dallas. They were married for over 65 years and had two children, Gail Allen of Houston and James L. Weatherby Jr. of Austin. In addition to his daughter and son, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive him.

In April 1943, he entered the U.S. Army as a lieutenant to serve in WWII. He served in the India and Burma Theater as part of the 478th Railroad Operating Battalion. He was honorably discharged in February 1946, as a captain.

While in St. Louis and Bella Vista, he taught children’s Sunday school; was an active Bible scholar, and to the joy and benefit of his extended family developed skill and productivity in woodworking and furniture building.

The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at The Summit at Northwest Hills and Oddessy Hospice for all the loving care James received over the last year.

A memorial service of life and resurrection will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Austin, Texas, which would have been his 95th birthday, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Dr. Interment will be in Bella Vista Gardens, Bella Vista, beside his beloved Eloise, at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Donald Carl Nielsen

BELLA VISTA — Donald Carl Nielsen, 86, of Bella Vista died Dec. 21, 2009, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville. He was born on Feb. 3, 1923 in Omaha, Neb., to Axel Nielsen and Ina Whitfield Nielsen.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Betty Hunter in 1946 in Omaha, Neb. He was employed at Upland Industries as a real estate consultant. He and his wife moved to Bella Vista in 1989 from Omaha, Neb. He was a member of the 9 Hole Men’s Golf and numerous golf clubs and organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Robert.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Nielsen of Bella Vista. He is also survived by his son, Don Jr., daughter-in-law, Nila, and granddaughter, Kristin Nielsen all of Omaha, Neb.

No services are planned. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista.

Pauline Louise Grote

BELLA VISTA — Pauline Louise Grote, 93, of Bella Vista, died Dec. 21, 2009, at her home. She was born in Elgin, Texas, on March 1, 1916, to Marion and Pauline Bahn Galloway.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Roy; children, Wynona Engle and husband Laird of El Campo, Texas, Raymond Grote and wife Mary of Joplin, Mo., Florine Haug and husband Willie of Odem, Texas, Dorinda Glennon and husband Bill Hogan of Pocatello, Idaho; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Rogers.

Milton Logan

SELIGMAN, Mo. — Milton Logan, 80, formerly of the Pea Ridge area, died Dec. 21, 2009, at his home in Seligman, Mo. He was born April 4, 1929 at Judsonia to John Conway Ireland and Ruby Agnes Wood.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pea Ridge.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; seven children; 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Sisco Funeral Home Chapel in Pea Ridge. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at the chapel.

Cremation will follow.

Inez Finn Turney

ROGERS — Inez Finn Turney, 88, of Rogers died Dec. 20, 2009.

She was born April 5, 1921, and loved to garden, raise flowers, going out for a good hamburger, and shop. Inez was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her daughter-in-law and granddaughter.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law. Phyllis Turney, of Cave Springs; a granddaughter Alicia Floyd, and her husband, John, of Cave Springs; a great-grandchild, Brandon Floyd, of Cave Springs, and a great-great-granddaughter, Kiarah Floyd, of Rogers.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Turney; her parents, Minnie Wright and Charles Freeman Finn; a brother, Clea Wright; and a sister, Alice Carlson.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Ruddick Cemetery in Garfield with Chaplain Steve Dykes officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers.
