ON TV CONTEST

— They keep the streets safe. They hunt down bad guys. They protect the innocent residents of the TV world. It’s about time they got some On TV Contest recognition.

For the new contest, the judge asks: Who is your favorite TV police officer? Why?

To enter, just choose a member of a TV police force and explain why that person is your favorite. Maybe you think Lennie Briscoe of Law & Order was the pinnacle of TV cop-dom. Or perhaps you prefer the antics of Gunther Toody from Car 54, Where Are You?

The officer can walk the beat in a uniform, go undercover or direct the troops from the office, but he must be with the actual police department. No security guards or private investigators. And, no, the FBI does not count as police.

Also, this is for scripted series only. No favorites from Cops, please.

Your entry can take any form you like as long as you explain your choice.

Send the entry (one per contestant), including your mailing address and daytime phone number, to Jennifer Nixon at [email protected]. Entries must be received no later than 3 p.m. Jan. 18.

The reader with the best-written entry will win the chance to choose from Judge Nixon’s Fabulous Prize Pile of TV DVD sets.

Who can enter: anyone except the winner of the last contest, Betty Jo Morris of Little Rock, and Arkansas Democrat-Gazette employees.

Note to privacy-conscious readers: We do not compile lists of mail or e-mail addresses for evil plots or marketing purposes. All entries are destroyed after the judge has selected her winner.
