Musician A 'Blues Hound By Nature’

RUSSELL STILL TRANSCENDS BOUNDARIES

He was a famed studio musician, someone who was part of Phil Spector’s team of musical ringers. He was the crazed man behind the keyboard during George Harrison’s “Concert for Bangladesh,” a benefit concert — which was filmed and later sold as a movie — that the former Beatle staged in 1971. He was the musical director of the band that toured behind Joe Cocker in support of his album “Mad Dogs and Englishmen.” He is also a solo artist, having recorded such hits as “A Song For You” and “Tight Wire.” Leon Russell has been a lot of things during his 40-plusyear music career. He’s still active in the music community, and his current tour will bring him to Fayetteville for a concert at 8 p.m. today at the Walton Arts Center as part of the venue’s “George’s Presents” series.
