ART BITES

Local Contest

Crystal Bridges at the Massey is planning a juried community photography exhibit for the spring. “Looking at Our Landscape” will feature photographs of the Northwest Arkansas landscape, from faded barns to vibrant rivers. Show organizers are particularly interested in images of landscapes that are threatened by development, disease and the ravages of age, and special consideration will be given to those that hold historic or cultural significance.

Photos of treasured sites in Benton, Carroll, Madison and Washington counties may be submitted, and 40 works will be chosen to show at the gallery from April 1 through May 31. The local show is in the spirit of “Heroes of Horticulture,” an exhibition featuring threatened heritage landscapes throughout the United States, which will be on display at Crystal Bridges at the Massey from Jan. 14 through March 21.

The deadline for submissions is Feb. 5. For more information, visit www.crystalbridges.org.

Holiday Shopping

The Wishing Spring Gallery in Bella Vista has added hours to accommodate holiday shoppers and will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in addition to its usual hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The gallery offers handmade arts, crafts and gifts, and is sponsored by the nonprofit Village Art Club. The gallery will close for the year on Wednesday.

Information: 273-1798.
