Don’t Like Organization? Then Don’t Join

A student and an art teacher founded Arkansas’ first Gay-Straight Alliance Club at Fayetteville High School nearly a decade ago. Thank you for a very reasonable and well considered OpEd. The diversity of our community is one of our most cherished assets. Striving for tolerance is not enough. We must be accepting and supportive.

I'm pro- anything that, in a responsible way, makes kids feel safer and more accepted. If we all knew the rigid application process a student organization must go through in order to prove the purpose and intent of forming then no one would question the validity of a group like a gay-straight alliance. My gratitude to the students involved in area GSAs and other groups that foster inclusiveness.
