PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Diversity Breeds Tolerance

I was a bit surprised to open my Sunday Daily Record (Dec. 14) and learn that a diversity group, the Gay-Straight Alliance, had been formed at our local high school. I was not shocked or incensed. Just a bit surprised. On one hand, I mused that this sort of organization might be better for college students rather than high schoolers, but then, Bentonville High School has a student population that surpasses many colleges anyway. And I wondered if my adult daughter, who in recent years declared her same-sex status, would have benefited from such during her high school days.
