Boeing’s 787 makes first test flight

Originally set to go up in ’07, jetliner begins 9 months of trials

Employees at Paine Field in Everett, Wash., cheer as a Boeing 787 Dreamliner takes off for its first test flight Tuesday.

Boeing’s new 787 jetliner finally got airborne Tuesday, the long-delayed inaugural flight of the world’s first commercial plane constructed with half its components made from lightweight composite materials.
