Coaches see spirit in NLR

Both UALR Coach Steve Shields and Memphis Coach Josh Pastner said they liked the atmosphere on Saturday at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.

Memphis won 83-71 in front of 5,538 with the crowd nearly evenly split between the schools. Memphis fans were seated behind the team benches and scorer’s table, while UALR fans were on the opposite side of the arena.

“The people down at Verizon did an excellent job,” Shields said. “Our two athletic departments did a great job. I would hope if we do continue with the series we could add to it from a crowd standpoint.”

Memphis fans were the more color-coordinated and louder during much of the game ...
