Restaurant seeks county’s 7th alcohol permit

Colton’s restaurant in Harrison is seeking a private club permit from the state, which would allow it to serve alcohol. Several of the area’s religious leaders are opposing the request.

Local ministers are leading a fight against an attempt to expand alcohol sales to a chain restaurant for the first time in Boone County.
They say it could damage the quality of life in Boone County, opens the door for other chain restaurant permits and goes against the will of the people, who repeatedly have voted the county dry.
Supporters say Harrison needs more private clubs so it can attract conferences and other businesses, which go instead to cities like Branson,32 miles to the north. Boone County has six private clubs, four of which are in the Harrison area, but only one is ina restaurant.
