Orthodox Community Dedicates Church
CONSECRATION MARKS FEAST DAY OF ST. NICHOLAS
Posted: December 12, 2009 at 3:43 a.m.
Bishop Antoun Khouri of the Diocese of Miami and the Southeast, left, consecrates the new St. Nicholas Antiochian Eastern Orthodox Church building in Springdale on Dec. 6. At right is the Rev. John Atchison, priest of the local parish.
Voices rise in an a capella chant, filling the sanctuary with clear, sweet sound. A deacon backs through the holy door that separates the congregation from the altar. He shakes incense at richly colored icons of Jesus, Mary and several saints, including the church’s patron, Saint Nicholas.
