FORT SMITH An 18-year-old Fort Smith man charged with first-degree murder of an Oklahoma man is blaming his co-defendant for the crime.
Police say Quincy Jay Plessy has told investigators that 18-year-old Jamal Clifton Gibson of Fort Smith shot 25-year-old Thomas Xavier Clayton of Poteau as they drove around Fort Smith.
Both Plessy and Gibson are charged with first-degree murder and have pleaded not guilty.
Clayton was found Nov. 30 on the side of a road with several gunshot wounds and died later at a Fort Smith hospital.
A police report says Plessy told investigators he assumes Gibson intended to rob Clayton and that the pistol used in the shooting was thrown into a culvert. The weapon has not been found.
