— A Rogers man didn’t see a pedestrian walking across Thompson Street before striking and killing him, according to a police report.

Francisco Gaucin, 31, of Rogers, was southbound on Thompson Street when he hit Ralph Medrano, 72, of Springdale, about 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Medrano was walking east across the street when he was hit by Gaucin’s Dodge Neon, according to an accident report from the Arkansas State Police.

Medrano was pronounced dead on the scene. The accident happened less than a block from his residence.

Gaucin wasn’t issued a ticket at the scene, but investigators are reviewing the accident and may cite him at a later date, said Sgt. Shane Pegram of the Springdale police. Gaucin wasn’t injured.

State troopers investigate all fatal car accidents.

The accident was not a hit-and-run, Pegram said.

Medrano’s death was the 548th fatal vehicle accident in the state this year.
