Cheerleaders and dance team members attending Lincoln and Washington junior high schools will be given more practice time throughout the school year, if the school board approves a request accepted by the district’s curriculum committee Thursday.
Currently, eighth-graders who are a part of the cheer or dance teams are afforded a class period for practice during the fall semester only. Practices during the spring semester take place before or after school.
The district does not have a cheer or dance team for seventh-graders.
Erin Creech, dance team coach at Washington Junior High School, argued that because the teams’ seasons last until February, in-school practice time should be provided throughout the entire school year.
