My 6 year old refers to the 40th St/Don Tyson intersection as the "bad intersection" because they have numerous accidents there. She and my wife avoid it during their morning commute. I'm not a fan of throwing up traffic lights just anywhere, but the traffic flow and geography at this intersection make it particularly dangerous. My wife continues to threaten to take my 6 year old to "see the mayor" about the issue. Perhaps the city will reconsider before such drastic measures have to be taken!

The intersection of DTP and 40th is extremely dangerous. 1st: drivers on DTP do not obey the 35 MPH speed limit. Typical speeds are closer to 50 MPH, especially during rush hour when Tyson employees are trying to get to work. 2nd: the block retaining wall along the north side of DTP creates a bad blind spot for drivers trying to turn east (left) on to DTP from 40th. If you stop at the stop line on the pavement, you CANNOT see far enough to make a safe turn. Combine that with the speed factor mentioned earlier and it is extremely dangerous. 3rd: this intersection is NOT well illuminated. There is one light that isn't on half the time. This intersection needs very serious improvement. The city should not have made the transition to four lanes east of this intersection.
